Baking Hack: Easy DIY Penguin Cupcakes!

We recently threw a baby shower at our Church for a lovely mama-to-be, and she LOVES penguins. So what better way to honour her than with a penguin theme including these super cute penguin cupcakes!

It's really quite simple:

Cupcakes:

  • Bake your cupcakes as per your recipe - boxed cake mix works perfectly fine

  • Allow the cupcakes to cool

  • Spread icing on top of the cupcake (vanilla gives it that snow theme)

  • Place shredded coconut in a bowl and then press the icing on the top of the cupcake into the coconut to coat

  • Cut a slit near in the top of the cupcake about 2/3 of the way back - this is where the head will sit

Penguins:

  • Take an Oreo apart (this is surprisingly harder than it looks. The gluten free Oreos actually work much better in terms of staying intact)

  • Cut out a tiny "V" at the top of the icing

  • Place two mini chocolate chips for eyes

  • Place one mini M&M (either yellow or orange) for the beak

  • Break the non-icing side of the Oreo

  • Place about half way back pointy side in to the cupcake on either side for wings

and that's it!
