If there’s one snack that never lasts long in our house, it’s puppy chow. And when Valentine’s Day rolls around, I love giving classic recipes a tiny festive twist without making things complicated. Enter Puppy Love Chow – the same irresistible, sweet-and-crunchy treat everyone loves, just dressed up with Valentine’s sprinkles.

This is the perfect snack for classroom parties, Galentine’s get-togethers, movie nights, or packaging up in little bags to surprise friends and neighbors. It comes together in minutes, uses pantry staples, and is one of those recipes kids can actually help make (which is always a win).

Puppy Love Chow Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 cup white chocolate chips (about one full bag)
- 5 cups Chex cereal
- 1 cup Valentine’s sprinkles
- 1 cup instant vanilla pudding mix (one full packet)
Directions
- Melt the chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and white chocolate together. Heat in short intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted. Don’t worry if it seems a bit thick/not super melty. Once you get it in to the cereal you can even use your hands to smoosh it around and make sure everything is coated! - Coat the cereal
Place the Chex cereal in a large bowl. Pour the melted white chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir until every piece is well coated. Fold in the Valentine’s sprinkles. - Shake to coat
Transfer the coated cereal into a large Ziploc bag. Add the instant vanilla pudding mix, seal the bag, and shake until everything is evenly coated and no wet spots remain. You can also simply add the instant pudding on top in the bowl you’ve already been using – but if you’re going to store in a Ziploc anyway you may as well shake in there too!
Tips & Variations
- Swap Valentine’s sprinkles for seasonal ones and make this recipe year-round.
- White chocolate can be replaced with milk or pink candy melts for a fun color twist. Think milk chocolate and chocolate pudding mix…yum!
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Package in clear treat bags with ribbon for easy Valentine’s gifting.
