Who doesn’t love a good scratch card? Well NOW you can make them for Valentine’s Day ( or any occasion really) and it actually is SO easy!

HOW TO MAKE DIY VALENTINE’S SCRATCH CARDSDIY Scratch Card Supplies

Here’s what you need for the scratch-off magic:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Dawn dish soap
  • Packing tape

Additional Supplies:

  • Paper
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • A paint brush
  • A coin

*Note: you can use washable paint if you are doing this project with kids, you will just need more layers of paint and it may appear more “streaky” than with acrylic

Directions:

  1. Write out your card! I chose “reasons why I love you” for the first one where you then scratch off the hearts to reveal all of the reasons you love the person, and the other card just says “Happy Valentine’s Day” and reveals the gifts/experiences that they get for Valentine’s Day! But you can really get creative!
  2. Prepare the paint: You are going to want to put your paint in a container (I recommend disposable so you don’t have to clean it – we love to use old egg cartons) and add just a quick splash of dish soap. I do not have measurements for this, just add a few drops and you’ll be good to go.
  3. Prepare the page: You will need to cut a piece of packing tape to fit over the image that you want to use for the scratch-off. Make sure it covers the entire area that you want to paint (see video below if you need a visual of this).
  4. Paint! Take your paint mixture and paint over the tape (that is over the shape) and then allow to dry. Depending on the colour & type of paint you used you may need more than 1 coat.

5. Once the paint is dry the card is done and your loved one can scratch away!!

You can use many different types of paper for this craft. I just used regular printer paper, but you could also make little business card sized ones out of cardstock, or use construction paper – whatever your heart desires. This craft really is so versatile.

As for the coin, you can get fake coins off amazon or at the dollar store to stick to the card for the person to scratch with OR like I did, you can give them a little bonus gift by attaching a real coin to the page (I chose a toonie).
